Pasture Raised Broilers

     We have been raising broilers for our freezer for about ten years. We have always purchased our broiler stock from
Murray McMurray in Webster City, Iowa. We have always purchased, and had good success with,
Jumbo Cornish x Rock crosses. We pasture these animals and they're in the freezer in 8 - 10 weeks.

     Here's what our broilers look like on pasture. We keep them within PoultryNet Electric Netting mostly to keep the goats, sheep, dogs, and cows away from their food and water!

We have several of these tarped enclosures to provide limited weather protection. These birds don't do especially well when wet and we try to limit their exposure to, especially, driving rain.

We used to be heavily involved in 4H poultry and we have a few retirees at the farm.

Here are Sultan and Satine, a nice breeding pair of Black Sumatra Large Fowl.
